## Overview

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) is a philanthropic organization dedicated to advancing **scientific research, education, and justice** through technology-driven solutions. A core pillar of CZI’s mission is **supporting open science and open source software** initiatives that drive innovation in **biomedical and computational research**.

### Eligibility Criteria

CZI funding opportunities are open to organizations worldwide, provided the proposed work complies with the **United States Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) sanctions program**.

Eligible applicants include:

- **Non-profit and for-profit organizations**
- **Public and private institutions** (colleges, universities, hospitals, research laboratories)
- **State and local government units**
- **Eligible federal agencies**

> **Note:** Grants are **not awarded to individuals**. Open source software projects operating independently must be affiliated with a recognized institution or organization. For-profit organizations may need to provide additional details on the **charitable purpose** of their proposal.
